Yes, you can read Gmail on your Tesla. Turnmail connects to Gmail and Google Workspace over IMAP using a Google app password. Setup takes about two minutes, and it’s easiest on your phone or computer.
Step 1: Turn on 2-Step Verification
App passwords only work when your Google account has 2-Step Verification turned on.
- Go to myaccount.google.com/security.
- Under How you sign in to Google, open 2-Step Verification and turn it on if it isn’t already.
Step 2: Create an app password
- Go to myaccount.google.com/apppasswords.
- Type a name such as Turnmail and click Create.
- Google shows a 16-character password. Keep that window open (or copy the password); you’ll need it in a moment.
Step 3: Connect Gmail in Turnmail
- In Turnmail, go to Email Accounts → Connect New Account → Connect with IMAP.
- Enter your Gmail address.
- Paste the 16-character app password (spaces don’t matter) and connect.
If Turnmail asks for server settings, open Manual Settings and use:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| IMAP server | imap.gmail.com |
| IMAP port | 993 (SSL/TLS) |
| SMTP server | smtp.gmail.com |
| SMTP port | 465 (SSL/TLS) or 587 (STARTTLS) |
| Username | Your full Gmail address |
| Password | The app password, not your Google password |
Google Workspace accounts
Work or school Google accounts use the same steps. If you can’t see App passwords in your Google account, your Workspace administrator may have restricted them. Ask them to allow app passwords for your account, or wait for one-click Google sign-in.
Removing access
To disconnect, remove the account in Turnmail’s Email Accounts (this also deletes your stored credentials and email), and delete the app password at myaccount.google.com/apppasswords.
